How do I replace a shut-off valve on Poly B?
The straight answer
With a transition fitting certified for polybutylene between the Poly B and a modern quarter-turn valve. Standard valve compression fittings are not rated for Poly B, and this is a job worth giving a plumber.
The longer version
The safe pattern is a Poly B rated transition first, modern valve second: convert the pipe with a certified coupling, then install a standard quarter-turn valve on the new material. Putting an ordinary compression valve straight onto polybutylene is a common and leak-prone shortcut.
