Are Poly B and PEX crimp rings interchangeable?
The straight answer
No. They differ dimensionally and by certification: Poly B rings are usually copper-coloured, PEX rings usually black oxide and often stamped PEX. Industry documentation states explicitly they are not interchangeable.
The longer version
They look similar and are not the same part: the rings differ dimensionally, the fittings differ by listing, and the plastics industry’s own technical documentation says outright that PB and PEX crimp systems are not interchangeable. The visual tell: Poly B rings are typically copper-coloured, PEX rings black. Mixing them is one of the classic causes of the slow leak behind the drywall. The fittings guide has the full compatibility map.
